The anonymous community effort Group put out posters in Punjabi and English, saying it was time for the Community to Wake Up! and hold politicians and police accountable for not doing enough to curb the violence. They put out the press release below, asking  the community to gather for a rally behind Surrey City hall (At the Surrey Public Library plaza near the Surrey Central Skytrain Station) next Wednesday, June 13.

Hey Surrey Parents And Community Leaders!

It’s about time that we should Wake Up! And ask our elected MLA’s, MP’s, Councilors and mayors of Surrey for their report card on what they have done so far to stop gang violence in last 12 years, while they proudly say I’m elected 3rd time, 4th time etc .

The ones who lost their sons-daughters in gang violence or drug epidemic or the ones who feel they can be next, please join this rally at city hall.

We publicly invite our local MLA’s, MP’s, Councilors and Mayor of Surrey to come and present their report card. If they will not show up, we will know where they stand and we as a community will have to consider next step for them.

We are not sending any special invitations to anyone. This is a public rally and everyone who is concerned with the KILLINGS of Children should COME OUT and make their voices heard LOUD and CLEAR!

All religious societies, sports clubs, cultural clubs, media are being requested to join us in this initiative  as this is not a platform for any individual or group and it does not belong to any particular party, group or people – it is a sincere COMMUNITY EFFORT.
