Obituary-MANJEET MEET-8It is with a heavy heart that all friends and members of the family of well known Punjabi-Canadian writer Manjit Meet announce that he has suddenly passed away after a massive heart attack.

Manjit Meet was the shining star of the current generation of the Canadian Punjabi writers. He belongs to that group of Punjabi writers, who started writing, after immigrating to distant lands. He immigrated to Canada on October 14, 1974.

Manjit Meet(Manjit Singh Dhatt) was born on April 12, 1954( August 1, 1953 in documents), in village Sheikhupur, district Ludhiana. His father's name is Bhag Singh Dhatt and mother's name is Bhagwan Kaur Dhatt.

He leaves behind his wife Daminder Kaur Dhatt, 1 daughter Robin(Ravinder Kaur) and 2 sons Amanjit Singh and Dharamjit Singh.

Obituary-MANJEET MEET8Manjit Meet completed his primary education from his village primary school and graduated in grade 10, from Government High School, Sidhwan Kalan. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from Guru Hargobind Khalsa College, Guru Sar Sudhar, in 1974.

 After immigrating to Canada in 1974, he settled in the transport business, after doing some odd jobs in Vancouver and Surrey. He received his diploma of Associate in Criminology, from Kwantlin College, Surrey, BC, Canada, in 1985. He worked with the department of Human Resources,as a temporary worker,  for a brief time.

He was a great friend, hard working and honest man. I will miss him.

He wrote and published the following books:

Poetry: Nikhmbhre(1983), Swalia Nishan(1990), Lakkad De Ghore(2002), Kanker Te Guldaan(2008) and Nange Paireen Paun(2009).

Poetry in English: Lamps of Blood(2007)

KaavNaatak/Verse-play: Adhoorey Paighamber(2009)

Literary Criticism/Editing: Kavi Ravinder Ravi

His unpublished works includes Pen-portraits, prose, literary criticism and short stories.

He was honoured, for his outstanding literary contributions, by the IAPAA, CIPSA, Indo-Canadian Times and Radio Rim Jhim.
